“Sєxiest man, take out the garbage”: Ryan Reynolds Felt His Career’s Major Milestone Had Little to No Impact on His Ex-wife Scarlett Johansson
Ryan Reynolds received the coveted ‘Sєxiest Man Alive’ тιтle from People magazine in 2010. He received the тιтle the same week as his ex-wife, Scarlett Johansson, received the ‘Babe of the Year’ тιтle from GQ magazine. Reynolds also starred in a stylish cover shoot for People. At the time, the Free Guy actor humorously remarked that his achievement didn’t seem to matter much to Johansson.
He mentioned that his then-wife would probably use the тιтle at home to tell him to empty the garbage can. Interestingly, a month after being bestowed with the тιтle, Reynolds and Johansson publicly announced their separation.
Ryan Reynolds followed in the footsteps of Hollywood greats like Sean Connery, George Clooney, Brad Pitt, and Matt Damon as he was тιтled the ‘Sєxiest Man Alive’. He proudly became the first Canadian to receive the тιтle. Reynolds jokingly shared with People that the тιтle was going to make way for his family, especially Scarlett Johansson, his then-wife, to tease him for the rest of his life.
The ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool actor is known for his self-deprecating humor and he didn’t shy away from making jokes about receiving the тιтle. While Reynolds planned out different ways to include the тιтle in conversations with strangers, he quipped that his wife would only address him as ‘Sєxiest Man’ before asking him to take out the trash. Reynolds told People (via NY Post):
“The most difficult part is going to be organically working this тιтle into a conversation with random strangers. This gives my family entrée into teasing me for the rest of my life. […] Now it’s going to be, ‘Sєxiest man, take out the garbage.’ That does sound better.”
